The Taunus Bikepacking route is a mixed-surface loop through the entire Taunus region. The exact route gets changed every year. The goal of this route is to showcase the variety and beauty of the Taunus region to riders that are looking for a challenging ride and plenty of steep hill climbs. Some riders have compared it to a rollercoaster.

The distance is approximately one thousand kilometers, with roughly twenty thousand meters of climbing. The elevation profile and the different surfaces make it very challenging. It’s basically never flat. As we constantly work on updating and improving it, the exact route for each edition is only finalized and shared with registered participants one or two weeks before the start.

About 49% of the route is on tarmac, the majority of which can be found in towns and on paved country lanes with very little car traffic. 49% is on loose surfaces such as gravel or dirt, the rest consists of cobbles or similar bumpy surfaces. 99% of the route is rideable with the right setup. Of course, the question of what is the right setup is highly individual. Independent of what kind of bike you prefer, we strongly recommend a tire width of at least 40 mm and small gears suited for the many steep climbs.
You’ll find shelter huts, hotels, campsites, fountains as well as regular resupply options along the way. We’re constantly striving to improve and refine the route. It is the result of many years of scouting and exploring since 2017. We aim to preserve and protect the quiet and unspoilt nature of the region. We don’t want to overwhelm small communities along the way with too much tourism. That is why the route remains exclusive to the participants of Taunus Bikepacking and does not get shared publicly.
